The medieval jewelry is most recognized for the display of timeless and exquisite jewels. The jewelry from the middle ages was even more ornate than ancient Egyptian jewelry or even ancient Roman jewelry. The style of this period shows great craftsmanship by the artists. The materials used in jewelry of the middle ages includes some of the most precious, such as gold, silver, pearls and several types of precious stones and gems.
Even know there are surviving pieces of Medieval jewelry, many of the gems and metals were recycled and used on new creations. The aristocracy of the middle ages flaunted gold jewelry, while silver was more reserved for the lower classes. Much of the gold was recycled from past periods by melting down old coins and jewelry pieces. There wasnt a large production of new gold during this time. Some countries traded to have gold sent to them from places in the Arab world.
Silver, on the other hand, was constantly produced in the middle ages and was an export staple for Europe. The precious stones used in medieval jewelry were mostly obtained from countries far away of great distance. Rubies, diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, and turquoise was found in Eastern countries. Amethysts were produced in Germany and Russia, and rock crystal was brought from Germany, France and Switzerland.
Revival of Antiques in the Medieval Jewelry
Antique cameos were often used for their jewels and metal decor. However, they began to become popular again in the middle ages, and the demand for their production grew during this period. The carved stones from the Byzantium eras were stilled imported into Europe during the middle ages.

Medieval pewter was used mostly for the production of house wares like plates, cups and utensils. The really wealthy people who could afford great pieces of Medieval art also had dinner ware made from gold or silver. Pewter may have also been used for some of the Medieval jewelry created for the aristocracy. There is kind of a funny, but tragic circumstance about pewter used with medieval dinner ware.
Medieval pewter was reserved for the house wares of the wealthier people. However, pewter from this time carried a medium to high level of lead. It was not known then that lead could be poisonous to the internal system, and people ate and drank with their pewter dishes and utensils. Toxins were digested slowly over time, and people were poisoning themselves without knowing it. There was not a high enough content to make people instantly sick, but the lead could not have hurt when people drank wine out of their pewter mugs.
You can find Medieval pewter artifacts quite easily on the Internet. Usually these are utensils, mugs, plates, bowls and other types of dinner ware. Some pewter boxes can be found from this time period. You may also be able to find large washing basins and jugs made from pewter. There are also pieces of jewelry from the time period made from this metal. Some of the people of the lower classes had jewelry made with pewter and glass stones.
Popularity of Medieval Pewter Against Other Metals
Pewter was not as popular with the wealthier people as gold and silver was. However, gold and silver was commonly recycled, and there are fewer artifacts available in those metals. It is easier to find artifacts from the middle ages made from pewter, as the lower classes and peasants made up the majority of the population of the most of the countries in the middle ages.

Dinosaur fossils are most commonly thought of as being exhibited in a museum, and most of them are. The large fossils and bones of popular dinosaurs, which attract fascinated eyes, are often placed in museums for many to study and enjoy. However, some fossil shells, fish fossils and even actual dinosaur fossils from prehistoric times are available for sale, and many of them at affordable prices. These are available for private collectors for many different reasons.
It seams unimaginable that dinosaur fossils dating back millions of years ago could be available for private purchases and for inexpensive costs. The truth is that recent excavations have revealed thousands of the same fossils, and these are not valuable because of their easy accessibility. Private collectors still want them since they are extremely old, and fossil collection from dinosaurs is a very rare circumstance.
Some examples of dinosaur fossils made available for public purchases include fossilized dinosaur eggs. These were very hard to obtain at one period of time. An excavation in Henan, China has led to the discovery of hundreds of dinosaur eggs, and they are still finding more in surrounding regions. This has just happened in recent years, but all of a sudden there are multiple fossil eggs available. They can range anywhere from 135 to 180 million years old.
More Types of Dinosaur Fossils
Some of the fossils available to the public include various teeth from some of the herbivore dinosaurs. Carnivore teeth are more rare and can be quite expensive. Pieces of dinosaur vertebrae also popular collectors items. One of the most interesting fossils offered on the Internet is a clump of fossilized dinosaur dung. It has formed into a rock called agate. Some of the rocks are transparent on the surface and you can see inside them.
